Rocky View Schools’ (RVS) newest addition, the Edge School for Athletes, has hired a new principal and CEO all in one after founder Brent Devost stepped down from his role. Cameron Hodgson has been in education for 25 years, including the last seven at the National Sports School in Calgary, training Olympic hopefuls. His new job will see him working with kids playing hockey, golf, dance and soccer looking to become elite athletes.
“That’s why it was a fairly natural fit for me,” said Hodgson. “I’ve always been involved in sport and continue to be.”
Hodgson went to the University of Calgary where he played as centre on the school’s football team and won a national championship in the ‘80s. He earned bachelor of education and physical education degrees along with a masters in educational leadership all from the U of C.
“Cam arrives in Rocky View Schools with a wealth of leadership experience and the ability to engage a community in creating and sustaining a shared vision,” said Greg Bass, RVS’ superintendent of schools. “I welcome Cam to Rocky View’s leadership team and look forward to working with him.”
Hodgson said there is much work to be done, including working with two boards — RVS and the Edge Society — and keeping all stakeholders up to date on events and news at the school.
“It’s going to be busy,” he said. “But I wouldn’t have taken the job if I wasn’t ready.”
Trustees are looking forward to having the new administrator on board, as well.
“On behalf of the board of trustees, I extend my congratulations to Cam,” said Bruce Pettigrew, board chair. “Cam’s calibre of expertise in the area of passion-based education will serve the Edge School well and foster the partnership with our jurisdiction.”
