Skill Development Program

Students in the Edge Soccer program receive individual and team training while continuing to play for their clubs or community teams. The skill curriculum consists of:

• Ball mastery
• Receiving and passing
• One-on-one offense, combination offense
• One-on-one defense, combination defense
• Team concepts and group play; and
• Advanced tactics

The goal of this skill development program is to have every student making tactical and technical decisions with composure and confidence during group play. Students receive exceptional coaching and continue to participate in their respective league, tournament and exhibition play - all of which is designed to introduce them to post-secondary opportunities in athletics and academics.

Travel

The soccer program looks for opportunities to enrich the student experience through travel.

In November 2010, students attended a Las Vegas Training Camp. This four-day optional trip included a Soccer Training Camp with the Cruz Azul Professional Academy, tour of UNLV and soccer theory classes. The Las Vegas Soccer Training camp is the only out-of-province training camp offered by Edge to the Soccer Academy. In Las Vegas, students combine high level two-a-day skills training sessions and game play throughout the week. The trip exposes students to a high level of training from the Cruz Azul Professional Academy coaches and current South American and college scouts. During the week the group is given the opportunity to visit the University of Las Vegas and meet the coaches and players.
