Dumba goes 7th in 2012 NHL draft.

Edge student Mathew Dumba wasn't sitting in the stands of the Consol Energy Center for long on Friday night during the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh. The Minnesota Wild selected the 17-year-old defenseman as the 7th overall pick making him the highest drafted Edge student this year.
Attending Edge for 6 years, Mathew in known for his relentless pursuit of excellence both in the classroom and on the ice. When asked recently if it was hard to stay focused for his exams with all of the draft excitement, he smiled and said, “No- I am studying hard and staying focused on school- I want to finish strong in my academics too.”
Mathew played the past two years for the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, scoring 20 goals and posting 57 points last season. He was the 11th-best North American skater in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings and the 7th-best North American skater on the scouting bureau's midterm list.
This year, Mathew was Canada's captain at the 2012 World Under-18 Championship and brought home the Bronze medal .
Literally.
At our Junior High Academic Awards ceremony this past April, Mathew shared his Bronze medal and award for being named Top Defenceman.
A player, student, and person of extreme passion- we have no doubt Mathew will succeed in all his future pursuits.
