Emma Pincott, Karly Heffernan, and Eden Murray have been invited to attend Canada’s National Women’s Program strength and conditioning camp, taking place May 2-6 at York University in Toronto, Ont.
The invitation list includes 57 hockey players from across Canada. Nine goaltenders, twenty defencemen and twenty-eight forwards will participate in both on- and off- ice sessions, while also being introduced to Hockey Canada’s expectations in areas such as nutrition, mental conditioning, and physical fitness.
Emma, Karly, and Eden will be eligible for Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team and Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team. Following the camp, Hockey Canada scouts will continue to evaluate all players at national team camps in August, and as they compete with their club and school teams at provincial and national events, such as the 2012 National Women’s Under-18 Championship this November in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Andrew Boutilier joins Edge as Director of Hockey

Beginning in March 2012, Andrew Boutilier will join Edge School as the Director of Hockey and Arena Operations. Andrew will work alongside our hockey staff to not only maximize the opportunities our two arenas present us from a business perspective, but also to ensure all student‐athletes in our various hockey programs benefit from the incredible wealth of talent our coaches possess.
Andrew is currently the Executive Director of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL, and is one of the most respected executives in Canadian Junior hockey. He was instrumental in the organization, fundraising and promotions necessary to host the 2010 Northern Classic, an outdoor game in Fort McMurray that set the AJHL attendance record. He was also selected by Hockey Canada to take his team to Russia to represent Canada in the 2011 World Junior Club Cup.
Read a recent news article from Fort McMurray Today:
Boutilier has been with the Barons for over a decade in various capacities and will take on the role of director of hockey operations and arena operations for the Edge School for Athletes.
“I think it’s an exciting position with huge potential and I’m excited to be a part of that group,” said Boutilier.
“It’s an emotional time for me, obviously, but I’m grateful that I’ve been able to be a part of such a great organization for so long.”
Oil Barons president Len Clarke added, “Andrew’s been with us for a decade and since day one, he’s been great for the Oil Barons.
“We knew from the beginning that Andrew’s heart was in helping the Oil Barons and the effort he’s shown us in the last few years he’ll bring it to the next job and he’ll do very well.”
Boutilier, now 37, started his career with the MOB as communications co-ordinator back in 2000 when Fort McMurray hosted the Royal Bank Cup, but he’s worn many hats with the organization including colour commentator, assistant coach, director, president and his current role as executive director.
“What I’m going to miss the most is the people of Fort McMurray. The community is unbelievable and what they give you day and day out here is something you don’t see other places,” said Boutilier.
“If I could just take a tenth of that reception in Calgary with me I’ll be really happy.”
During his tenure with the Oil Barons, Boutilier has seen many great moments for the franchise, including the RBC Cup, the Northern Classic and last summer’s inaugural World Junior Club Cup in Russia.
Still, Boutilier picks the people of the city that he’s called home for the last 35 years as his highlight as a part of the Oil Barons organization.
“Again, it’s the people. I’ve met my wife here, my children were both born here … it’s the people who have put a lot of stock in me and allowed me to accomplish what I’ve wanted to accomplish,” said Boutilier.
“I owe a lot of people a lot of big thank-yous. They can take a lot of stock in me getting this role in a school of the Edge’s magnitude.”
With so many friends and family in Wood Buffalo, Boutilier will still maintain a connection with the city and plans to visit periodically.
Boutilier will maintain an arms-length advisory position for the next few weeks until the next board of governors election for the Barons.
For the man affectionately known around the Casman Centre as “Boots”, his heart will remain with the blue and yellow.
“I’ll be following in a big capacity and if the playoffs go toward Calgary or even Edmonton area in the finals, I’ll be there, watching and cheering them on.” said Boutilier. “I’ll always be in touch with the organization, they’re near and dear to my heart and I’ll always cheer for the Oil Barons.”
