Edge School Dance supports Illumination cultural event in Calgary May 11, 2012
As a Cultural Capital of Canada for 2012, Calgary will host Illumination, a gala event that will feature an unprecedented city-wide collaboration of dancers and musicians. The Edge School Dance & Performing Arts program is proud to be one of the supporters of this event.
Illumination will be held on May 11, 2012 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Opening the program is "Vienna", with the Calgary Youth Orchestra performing the music of Strauss and Chopin. The orchestra will share the stage with a troupe of young dancers drawn from all over the city. The second act will feature four internationally acclaimed guest dancers. The finale will present a spirited tribute to the season with dancers giving life to the complex rhythms of Stravinsky's immortal ballet score Sacre du printemps (Rite of Spring).
