Academic Programs

Edge School's innovative learning environment fosters academic and athletic excellence for our student‐athletes.

Edge is very proud of its academic accomplishments and the quality of its 21st century curriculum. A rigorous university preparatory programme necessitates that a great deal of academic support is offered at every level to our students. With easy access to teachers, counselors and advisors, and a strong network of programmes designed to help students throughout their time at Edge, students are able to easily find guidance, encouragement and assistance.

Edge School’s academic programs:

  • Teach the critical thinking skills and learning strategies students need to become independent life-long learners
  • Foster leadership skills through the character-building principles inherent in sport and education
  • Provide opportunities to apply learned skills in both classroom and community settings
  • Help our young men and women develop positive self-esteem, core values and interpersonal skills

A Major Edge Milestone

We are pleased to share that the results from the January, 2013 Diploma Exams indicate that as a school we achieved the highest academic results in the history of Edge School.

For those unfamiliar with the Diploma Exams, these are the Provincially administered, standardized exams that count for 50% of a student’s mark in their grade 12 academic courses. The Diploma Exam results are used as a measuring stick to determine how students are achieving provincially.

Some highlights from the January results include:

  • Our average exam score increased nearly 9% over last year’s results
  • Over a third of our student-athletes achieved the standard of excellence (a mark of over 80%) on the exams

“Achieving this level of results means there are more possibilities and post-secondary opportunities for our graduating student-athletes. These results were achieved through the combined efforts of a large number of people in our school community;  the extremely dedicated academic staff, under the leadership of Keith Taylor, who believe in our student-athletes; the student-athletes, who are beginning to understand the effort and dedication required to attain personal excellence in all areas of their young lives; and parents and other Edge staff members who support and encourage high achievement.” – Cam Hodgson, Edge School CEO.

Following very closely on attaining these results, our Prep Boys Hockey Team and our Prep Girls Hockey Teams celebrated major victories. The Boys won the Mid-West Prep Hockey League Championship and the Canadian Sports School Hockey League title, and the Girls won the Gold Medal at the inaugural Female World Sport School Challenge. This is a phenomenal accomplishment and demonstrates that excellence in academics can exist hand-in-hand with excellence in athletics. This is what Edge is all about.
