The Kyle Stuart Memorial Arena is one of two arenas with NHL-sized ice sheets at Edge School. The Kyle Stuart Memorial Arena and the Edge Arena #2 are part of the Jim Davidson Sports Complex.
Kyle Stuart, Edge School’s first Hockey Captain, brought 110% of his grit, determination, passion and skill to each and every shift, game and season – whether on the ice, in the dressing room, in the classroom or on the lacrosse floor. The quintessential warrior. The true leader. The prototype for all Edge School Captains to come. We honour the memory of Kyle, salute the Mountaineers. Bam Bam KS10.
On February 21, 2009, Edge opened the doors to a dream long in the making. The Kyle Stuart Memorial Arena played host to its very first hockey game on that evening as Jason Stewart’s Midget AAA lads tangled with their Wainwright cousins in Rural Alberta Midget hockey League action. This was the final week-end in RAMHL regular season play. Mountaineer Captain Greg Gardiner scored the very first real goal on the Kyle Stuart Memorial ice a mere 34 seconds into the opening frame. A fitting tribute to Kyle and his passion for the game.
Within hours of the ice’s completion by Edge School’s top drawer ice making/maintenance crew led by veteran Brian Cochrane, Springbank Minor Hockey enjoyed a Saturday morning ice time as part of its long-term agreement for ice with Edge School. Edge’s connection with the community strengthens daily!
